Apple is embedding an artificial intelligence assistant directly into its core productivity apps, bringing automated text drafting, data organization, and slide design to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Announced alongside several updates to Apple’s creative software line, the assistant relies on models from both Apple and OpenAI to complete everyday document tasks.
The updates mark Apple’s direct response to competing office suites that have spent recent years adding writing and spreadsheet bots. Here is what the new features actually do, which devices can run them, and how much they cost.
What the AI assistant does in Pages, Keynote, and Numbers
The new assistant lives inside document windows, analyzing the context of your file to carry out actions based on simple written instructions. According to report details published by The Verge, the capabilities vary by app:
- Keynote: The assistant reads the context of your document to design, animate, and refine slides automatically.
- Pages: It can draft new text, restructure existing paragraphs, and tweak tone or phrasing across written documents.
- Numbers: The tool can calculate formulas, visualize data, organize rows, suggest chart types, and build custom tables.
Apple is also allowing power users to hook outside automation tools into their spreadsheets and documents. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers now support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 or later. This open standard allows third-party AI agents to connect directly to your files and edit content across apps.
New editing features for photos, video, and audio
Beyond traditional office software, Apple revealed several AI-driven additions across its professional creative tools. Pixelmator Pro is introducing a feature called Generate Fill, which lets users select a portion of an image and describe edits using a prompt. Apple says the tool matches the lighting, perspective, and texture of the surrounding image so edits blend into the background naturally.
Logic Pro for Mac and iPad is getting a visual redesign alongside an AI assistant capable of configuring a vocal track setup from a single prompt and helping edit audio projects. Logic Pro’s browser on macOS also gains on-device AI that automatically analyzes, classifies, and tags incoming sound files.
Finally, Final Cut Pro is adding a built-in Content Hub featuring stock video, photos, and backgrounds, alongside titles, transitions, and graphics provided by MotionVFX.
System requirements and pricing
To use the core AI assistant in Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, you will need a device capable of running Apple Intelligence. The feature is rolling out in beta for devices running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later.
Existing subscribers to Apple’s creative software will not need to pay extra fees to access the new capabilities. The Verge reported that the Creator’s Studio software updates will be available to current subscribers for free starting in November.
Because the writing and data tools rely on beta AI software, results may occasionally contain mistakes. Users generating financial formulas in Numbers or preparing formal documents in Pages should double-check their figures and text before publishing.
